The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

“You can look, touch, feel, smell, and even taste. Your dicks, however, must stay in your pants. Understand?”

The nods and verbal agreements are seen collectively around the room. “Great. Again, to make sure we are on the same page…the women here are in our employ. They are here for images 2your pleasure.” Another pause takes me over at the word pleasure. I am not going to survive this year. There is no way I can do this.

“The better you treat them, the better your entire experience will be. I can promise you that. Violence of any sort will not be tolerated. You will be removed, at once. I can also promise that your violence will be reciprocated. So let’s not have any of that.” I nod and step back. Mason steps forward, grabs the mic and drones on about more crap.

When the meeting is over, everyone breaks off into conversations.

“Tyson!” A lottery winner summons me. He is a very high ranking politician. I turn and cross the room to meet him.

“Yes, Mr. Davenport?” Not his real name.

“Rousing speech. You don’t have to worry about me. I will treat each woman like a Princess.”

My fist connects to his face and I am standing over him shouting a string of profanities.

In reality, I say. “That is good news, Mr. Davenport. They deserve the best,” I say.

I get the impression he has more to say to me, but I step away before he can begin. After a couple more men come up to me promising that they will be on their best behavior, I make my way in haste back to my room.

Flame is long gone when I return. We have one more night together and I hope it is another boring normal night, which for me is neither of those things.

Chapter Fourteen

What I want most is to wake up and the year is over. I cherished the two nights I spent with Flame being “normal” watching movies and binging on snacks. I was wrong about her favorite type of movie, she is definitely a comedy girl, laughing so hard during the funny parts of a movie that it made me crack up. Which is a good thing because I was hardly paying attention to the movie. My eyes only saw her, my ears tuned in to the precise tone of her voice, every little sound. We never touched, at least not intentionally, an occasional leg or hand graze, which loaded my body full of electricity. She is the one for me.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

That ought to do. I didn’t put any sappy salutations or greetings. Short and to the point. My duties go by without a hitch. The rush coursing through me to see Flame again manifests itself in brilliant efficiency. The last duty on my list is to check with the lottery winners to discuss tomorrows coming out party with them in detail. Mason and I have learned over the years that people need rules and laws to be bound by. Each man has an individual contract with us, that allows us to throw them out on their asses if they break them, and they forfeit the money they paid to get here.

When I arrive all thirty-five men are in attendance, standing around engrossed in quiet images 2conversations. Mason and several guards are scattered around the room. The room is more clinical than most spots here, implying that the information exchanged here is to be taken seriously. Mason crosses the room to the front where I am standing.

“Welcome gentlemen, please take your seats.”

There is the sound of shuffling and movement as the men return to their seats. I stare out into the sea of men with different eyes. Each one of them will take his turn over and over with Vivian. I want to walk around the room and snap each and every one of their necks. The eager gleam in their eyes only infuriates me more.

“Hopefully this will be the last one of these meetings. You are all adults and we believed you were capable of making this year’s Chamber a success when you were selected. We all have a role to play in ensuring we meet our goals of having the time of our lives. I will turn the meeting over to my second in command, Tyson.”

Mason hands me the microphone, pats me on the back, and takes a step back. I don’t need any amplification. “Good afternoon, gentlemen. As you know this year’s Chamber is about to get underway, starting with tomorrow’s coming out party. Let me reiterate that the event tomorrow is not about having sex with the girls.” I give pause. The words have to compete with an unfamiliar lump in my throat. I have given this speech in previous Chambers, but this is the first time I feel the words I am speaking.

My stomach is queasy.

The lump in my throat will not recede.

I am aware of my current suffering, but I know that the rest of the people in this room are not. To them, only a second has gone by, but for me, this new sensation feels like a lifetime. Another thing I will never forgive myself for.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

I take a couple of deep breaths because the truth is…I want to get her out of here, as far away from this shit circus as possible.

“Okay, I’m finished!” Flame shouts out to us.

I turn to find her in denim shorts and a red tee-shirt. Perfection. I know that Zee has gone when I hear the door close behind us. I cross the room and grab the remote. After I depress the button an eighty-inch flat screen drops down from the ceiling.

She wants normal. So I will try. I don’t gush over how hot she looks in something so images 2simple. Instead, I flop down on the sofa and plop my feet onto the coffee table. Next, I call the kitchen for popcorn and soda.

I almost lose my composure when Flame ties her hair into a messy bun on the top of her head and drops down on the sofa next to me.

We have more digital movies than anyone can imagine. I scan and select a recent action movie. I know from surveilling her that she loves action and crime movies.

The only time I get up from my comfy spot is when the snacks come. Together, we spend the next five hours watching movies and gorging ourselves on snacks.

“This is the “normal” I crave. Nice guy. Nice night. I only wish the haunted house filled with boogiemen didn’t exist right outside that door,” she says.

I don’t say anything, there is nothing to say. I only hope the expression on my face tells her that I am sorry for her pain, and any role I have played in it.

When the sun breaks through the small skylight, I awake to find myself and Flame sprawled out on the sofa. Even I have to admit last night was the most normal night I have ever had with a woman. In a move even I have to admit is creepy, I watch her sleep. The way her soft pink lips are slightly open, her even breaths, her bed hair spread all around her—she really is the closest thing to heaven I will ever know. I resist every urge to touch her, to trace her lips with my fingertips, to simply touch my lips to hers. I am losing it for sure.

Chapter Thirteen

It takes everything I have to leave her, but if I can’t demonstrate an ability to juggle my responsibilities and time spent guarding Flame, I know Mason won’t hesitate to pull me from her guard. That, and the fact that her waking up with me staring at her like a loon or worse, my lips planted on hers would be the opposite of helpful. I scrawl a quick note to Flame.

Flame,

As much as I don’t want to, I have to return to work. Please make yourself at home. However, if you need to leave for any reason, please use the monitor that I used to call for snacks and request an escort from Zion.

See you later,

Tyson

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

She falls back against the chair in defeat. “Then I can’t go. I mean, I would never forgive myself if something happened to the people I love,” she shakes her head a few times allowing her decision to sink in, then in a move that will forever define her character, she stabs her fork into her salmon and begins to eat, as if to say fuck it, I guess I’m staying.

Her eyes soften and a gentle silver gazes at me. I am all hers if she only knew. “I believe you…when you said you would take me away from here. You would do it wouldn’t you?”

“Without question.”

“Why, what am I to you?” Her voice is soft, careful.

The woman I love. “My birthday buddy,” I tease because I sure as shit can’t say more than that.

She laughs and takes another bite. “Well, hell if that’s what I have to cling to for your images 2kindness and protection I will take it and forever be grateful for being born on April ninth!” she says around her bite.

I join her in laughing, relieved at the turn our conversation has taken.

“So what do we do for the next two days?” she asks.

“Whatever you want.”

“Nice! Because I don’t want to have any sex.”

“Then we won’t,” I say.

She gets up from the table and crosses the room to the bed and flops down and begins unstrapping her shoes. I called that one. I know my girl.

“Can we call Zion and ask her to bring me something else to wear? I want to pretend my life is normal. That you are one of my friends from and we are hanging out. We could watch movies or play stupid board games!” she says, standing up. “Can you help me? I have to get out of this stupid dress! I would never wear anything like this!” she turns so the zipper is facing me.

I push the private channel for Zee, while I walk over to assist her. I need her to get into some clothes stat because I am a man, and Flame is all I want. “Hey, can you bring Viv…Flame some regular hanging out clothes please.”

“Copy that,” Zee says. She loves playing with the two-ways.

Thankfully, Flame doesn’t remove her dress. Instead, she sits on the bed, zipper down. Waiting for Zee.

It doesn’t take her very long. “Thanks, Zion!” Flame says, her voice filled with relief.

I walk Zee out while Flame changes into something more casual. Anything to give her the modicum of normal she so desires. “Thank you for running that stuff over. I owe you big,” I say.

We stand at the door waiting for Flame to give the all clear. “How is it going?”

I shrug my shoulder’s. How can I answer that question? “Okay, I guess. She’s tough. Even tougher than me.”

Zee nods. She sees it too. “You will get through this, and so will she, just be there for her in any way that you can.”

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

She doesn’t look into my eyes. Instead, she focuses on the food on her plate. “Why?” she asks.

“Why what?”

“Are you being so nice to me? This is some weird shit around here. I mean why kidnap us and then treat us like dolls you can dress up when all we are here for is to be passed around like trash. I don’t understand,” she sits back in her seat and this time she does stare at me. And, boy, if looks could kill. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy you are nice, but why?”images 2

Strong, brave, ballsy. Perfect.

“I am assigned to protect you. All of the women get a guard. I am in charge of the entire guard and they have all been trained by me to treat all of you with kindness and respect. We are all under Mason’s employ and that makes us the same.”

She stares into my eyes. Glares is more like it. Steel gray eyes boring into my soul. I can nearly see a fucking flame behind them. I’m losing her. I can’t lose her.

“You know that is fucking bullshit, we are not anything alike because I didn’t ask to be here. None of us did and if I have the choice then I want to fucking go home. You probably had a fucking interview for this job, I was taken from my bed in the middle of the night!”

She pours more wine into her glass and downs it all, before pouring another. “What is all of this? Wine and fancy dinner? I want out of here!”

Well, I deserve all of this anger. She must trust me to some degree to lay it all out in front of me without fear. “If you want to leave say the word and we will go. I will take you away from here,” I say.

Instantly she perks up in her seat at the idea. “You would do that? Really?”

I nod. For you, I will do anything.

She almost immediately deflates. I can see the thoughts flying through her head. “What about the pictures, the video of us? Would Mason really come after me and my family?” she asks.

I sigh. “Listen, I have never personally known him to go after anyone, but then I have never known anyone to test out his theory and try and escape. If you are asking me if I believe he is capable of carrying out his threat all I can say is yes. No one who goes to these great lengths to create an empire like this will risk losing everything.”

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

My heart hits my stomach when the most beautiful creature created on earth crosses the threshold, escorted by Zee. Flame is smiling when our eyes meet. A smile spreads across my face. Breathless. She is wearing a gorgeous floor-length deep red dress, with thin straps at her shoulders, the dress hugging her form. Taller than last time because she is in sky-high heels, and knowing her as I do she would rather be barefoot. Her hair falls in an ocean of thick black waves. If I didn’t already love her, this would be that defining moment, when there is no going back.

“Good evening,” I say and pull out her chair for her to sit. “You look lovely.”images 2

Flame crosses the room toward me, her cheeks warm with blush. Zee looks on from the door, no doubt proud of her beauty work with Flame, not that she needs any, and happy for my possibilities.

“Thank you,” she says and takes her seat. I ease her closer to the table before walking around to take my seat. My heart hammering in my chest the entire time.

“You two have fun. I will send Gus in with your dinner,” Zee calls out before she leaves.

Silence falls as Flame and I watch the closed door, I am half expecting, half hoping Zee will return. I don’t know what to say to her, I mean stripped of the diversions of Mason, I am exposed.

“I like her,” Flame says after a long silence.

“Oh, Zion is the best. She will take good care of you. We both will,” I add.

She doesn’t respond to that other than a tight smile. There is white wine on the table, so I fill our glasses. Flame doesn’t hesitate to take a long draw. “So how does this work exactly? What part do you play?” she asks.

That is a good question.

I have a moment to think about how to respond to her very poignant question when Gus and Randy enter, bringing our dishes. Thankfully, because I must say the right thing to her. She is as smart as she is beautiful.

We are not given a choice but the chef here is top-notch. Salmon with a ginger glaze, asparagus, and twice baked potatoes. We thank them and they retreat.

“Well, the next couple of days you and I will spend time in here. I am supposed to do more of what we did last night, but we don’t have to do that. We can do whatever you want.”

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

“You were right about her Ty, she is amazing! A beautiful soul. I think she really likes you, too.” She downs the rest of the soda and produces one of those burps that can only be created with a belly full of carbonation.

“How do you know? What did she say?” I am a twelve-year-old boy with his first crush andimages 2 I need answers.

“It wasn’t what she said. It was the smile behind her eyes whenever I mentioned your name or the prospect of spending the evening with you tonight.”

I am doing flips inside. Zee is intuitive, so I believe her. I can’t wait to see Flame tonight. “Thanks, Zee. But wait. I’m not gonna sleep with her. I can’t. I don’t want her to think that is all I want from her,” I say.

She shakes her head and giggles. “My dear bestie. I don’t know how you are gonna survive this experience without killing someone if you feel this way about her. If you don’t wanna sleep with her then don’t but at least you get to spend time with her. Offer her comfort, gain her trust. Just be careful.” She stands up and leans down and gives me a quick peck on the top of my head. “Man do you have the love bug bad. Gonna be a long fucking year for you. I’m beat. See you around,” she says and makes her way out my door.

Chapter Twelve

Alone with My Girl

We are not ushered back into the Deflowering Chamber this time. I guess it makes sense seeing that Viv…Flame is no longer a virgin, and better we don’t have to share this space with Violet and Gabe. I am waiting for her in the gathering wing of this vast structure, in a private room. The setting is intimate. A small dinner table set for two, a drawn bubble bath, and of course a huge fluffy bed, this time made up with crimson bedding. The message is clear, after the time we spend inside these walls, the love of my life will be assuming her Chamber duties, considered a well-oiled sex machine after a couple of days with me. That breaks my heart.

Mason is part genius and part madman for orchestrating this. I don’t know how the women feel, there is no way that I can, but I do know that the purpose of this kind of treatment has to do something to them psychologically, reduce their fear a little. But then that is just a guess.

I know there are cameras in this room. There is not a camera in this place that I am not aware of, considering the fact that I oversee security and surveillance falls under that umbrella. I have no doubt that Mason will question the choices that I make this evening, and analyze every second. Fuck him, he is not the reason I am here any longer, she is.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

Making rounds today is different. Usually, I feel a sense of ownership for this place, a feeling that this is my home. Not anymore. Vivian being here is prying my eyes open and dusting off the layer of crust that has gathered upon my heart. This is no longer home to me and I don’t want to be here anymore. Mason can carry on, do whatever the fuck he wants, but after this year he will have to do it without me. This isn’t one of those in-it-for-life organizations, I can leave whenever the fuck I want.

The box, which is actually a rectangle this year is buzzing with activity. From a silent spot images 2in the corner, I watch the guards at work. They are a well-oiled machine. They don’t even need me. There are even a couple of guys who could assume my responsibilities with relative ease and some extra grooming from me. This I will do on the sly, under the guise of a “just in case I get sick or worse” sort of scenario.

I don’t know when I will be able to spend any time with Vivian, or Flame. I’d better start calling her that lest I slip up and reveal too much.

Hours go by before Zee is knocking at my door. I have completed rounds, twice and met with the lottery winners that are hanging around. I gave them the speech about being respectful, treating the women well or suffering the consequences. I meet with Mason and decide against one last attempt to release Vivian, I mean Flame. If I keep after him, I may ruin everything.

“Finally!” I say when she walks through my door. I gave her the access code a long time ago. Always the same group of numbers in varying combination, my mother’s birthday, the day she passed, and the day Vivian popped up on the screen. For me, the latter two have come to be the most significant days of my life.

“Boy, do you have it bad! I came as soon as I could!” she says, taking a seat at my small dining table. Instead of getting down to business she reaches into my small cooler and pops open a cold soda.

“You are stalling on purpose to make me suffer!” I yell.

Her eyebrows rise and she feigns shock. “Me?” She clutches her chest for added drama. “Never!”

“Remember, I can be the opposite of helpful in our next training session. You wanna learn how to be a lethal killing machine or not?” I tease. She knows I would never jeopardize her training. In a place like this, a young lady needs to know how to defend herself.

“Fine! Sit.”

I do what she says. She has my complete attention.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

Another first. Waking up with a beautiful woman in my arms. I could do this for the rest of my life with Vivian. “Good morning, beautiful,” I say. When she awakens, disoriented I am sure.

“Hi.” She stretches.

“How are you feeling?”

“Exhausted …split in two,” she admits.

I sigh and sink deeper into the blankets. A normal morning with the woman that I love. Hardly, but a man can hope and pretend, right? “Sorry about that. I seem to have that effect on women.”

She seems to have a million questions on the tip of her tongue, but I understand her reservation at asking. I take in her beauty, no makeup, a serious case of bedhead, but the sexiest case I have ever seen. Wild and animal, and making my heart pound in my chest. “Today you meet with your groomer, Zion,” I tell her.

I pop out of bed and don’t miss that her eyes zero in on my junk. She is probably images 2wondering how she handled it. I would love to stay and bask in Vivian all day, but I have duties to get to and if I shirk even a second of my responsibilities Mason will pull me from her guard at once, and if he does that I will have to risk both of our hides taking her from this place. Because if I can’t be her personal guard then she can’t be here. But I wouldn’t be able to take her home, either, because Mason would just snatch her again. We would be on the run, at least until he lost interest in her. I grab a crimson colored robe, her new color in here. The color suits her, though she will most likely grow to dislike it.

We make our way out of the Deflowering Chamber and down the corridor toward Zee. I pass a few guards along the way. All business when I greet them, sure that they find it peculiar that I am taking a post as a personal guard after all this time. Curious that I had sex with one of the Chambermaids. I keep close proximity to Vivian, but keep that distance professional, when inside I want to grab her hand and skip around to romantic songs like a fucking idiot in love.

There is something between us, though. Flickering little jolts of electric current. I can feel it bouncing between us. I wonder if she can. All I know is this isn’t in my head, it is palpable and wonderful. When we approach Zee she gives me a weird look that I will have to ask her about later. I nod at Vivian after brief introductions, because if I were to hug her, or any other show of affection that would be a red flag for any onlooker. Turning to leave, I nod goodbye to her, hoping that she can see the feelings behind my eyes. She offers me a wave. That has to speak for something, the fact that she felt compelled to acknowledge me at all, that must mean something? I’m digging, I know. Zee did me a solid by volunteering to groom Vivian too, and she couldn’t be in better hands than my closest friend in this place.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

I lift my love off of dick. I feel cold without her there.

I clamber out of the bed and take a close seat to where this will all go down.

My ears cloud with stress and anxiety of what I am about to see. Then again, that is what I subjected her to when I made the decision to bring her here instead of taking her far away, a year of being fucked by this guy and that guy.

Mason doesn’t take any time, she is on her knees and he plunges himself deep inside of her. He is an animal as he slams into her over and over again. If he dares a glance my way, he will see the pain behind my eyes that I am attempting to mask.

“Look at Tyson,” Mason commands.images 2

Are you fucking kidding me? I want to beat the shit out of him. Okay ,Mason wants to play at this. I will not show him that I am rattled, because if I do this sick bastard will find more ways to use Vivian to make me suffer. I grab my dick and rub my hand up and down the shaft. Wouldn’t a guy that didn’t have a problem do that? Get off on the fucking going on before his eyes? Our eyes are locked and Mason isn’t behind her, I am. I will her to see that, to feel that. Her cheeks warm and she appears to be feeling what I ask of her. It’s my dick inside of you, Vivian, feel me. She comes with that bitch of a prick inside of her and it is a kick in my fucking gut.

“Fuck! Best Chamber ever!” he yells as he comes and collapses onto her back.

When Mason pulls out of her it isn’t long before he passes out next to her. He is such a little bitch he may as well stick his thumb in his mouth. I hate him.

I seize the opportunity and take Vivian over to the empty bed.

“Sleep,” I say.

The disappointment that covers her face is all I need to know that she trusts me with everything she has. I am her lifeline and she is mine.

“Not to brag, but I am a lot to take for experienced lady parts. Yours is a new, tender little flower that needs to be handled with care. We can explore more tomorrow.”

She pulls the covers over herself and I slide in behind her, wrapping her into my arms. She is fast asleep in minutes.
