The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

With my thumbs, I wipe the sprinkle of tears that escapes her beautiful eyes, mesmerized by how silver they look now. I can’t be sure how she feels, but that was the most honest, vulnerable, intense experience I have ever had. I bring my lips to hers. Her lips curl up into a loving smile as she kisses back.

“I love you,” I say, barely above a whisper. The words just spilled out, but her reaction images 2was wonderful. She didn’t behave as though shocked. She didn’t recoil. Instead her tears increased and she stared into my eyes, giving herself to me. Not all of her, but I swear I could feel her break off for me a tiny piece of her trust, hope, and what I believe could be the beginnings of love.

I know I don’t deserve any of it, but with greed I will take it all. Pulling her into me, we roll onto our sides, my cock still deep inside her.

“I missed you so much,” I say as I breathe her in. I want to remember every scent our bodies make together. “I didn’t tell you I loved you to hear those words back. I said them because I mean them, Vivian. I am in love with you. I want you to know how I feel, always.”

She backs up, gluing her body to mine. “I missed you, too,” she says into the fold of my arm. “I’m kind of like a crackhead, looking for your letters every single day. I’m so happy when I see the lavender envelope,” she continues and kisses my arm. “I don’t know what to say. Something is happening between us.”

“You are destroying them after you read them, right?”

“Yes, but I don’t want to. I want to read them over and over until the papers fall apart.”

“But you understand that it would be too risky. If anyone knew. If it got back to Mason, he could remove me from the guard.”

“No!”

I can hear the panic in her voice and feel her heart race at the thought.

“Yes. Oh Vivian, I want to take you away from here.”

Her head snaps around and she looks into my eyes. “You can’t! I have to finish! I can’t risk my family! Besides, as long as you are with me, I know I will be safe. Right?”

“Right… You are so strong.”

Would she be mine on the outside if we left now?

I know the answer to that question. No. Sure, she would be ever thankful for the support I gave her inside the walls of The Chamber. I believe that she is far less afraid than the other women, and I know that is because of the bond we have between us. But it wouldn’t be enough. Not yet, but if she wanted to leave I would whisk her away into the night, regardless.

“No, I’m not strong. But I have you, and you give me strength.”

Wow. That admission makes my heart sing. But she can’t believe that—it weakens her, and to survive this year she needs all of her inner strength.

I ease out of her and roll her over to face me. “That is not true.” I kiss her hands. “Your strength is one of the things I fell in love with, Vivian. I know it sounds crazy after a few months to say that I love you. You must think I am nuts.”

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

I wake in the morning, elated to see Vivian still in my arms. I have to get back to work, so with care I slip out from under her and make to leave. I found a little plastic red heart the other day. Silly, I know—I am now in elementary school. I don’t know, I meant it as something she could have and touch that was given to her by me. I leave it near her pillow and make my way out.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

I take my time bringing my face to hers. She squirms. I breathe deeply, inhaling her, prolonging the want, teasing her skin with my breaths, hovering just at her lips. When I can’t take another second, I slide my tongue between her lips. She pulls me closer and her tongue accepts the request for a dance. We breathe hard and take what the other has to give, all of it. It is desperate, raw and sexy. I moan into her mouth.

She tries in vain to pull me on top of her. But I resist. My fingers play absently in her images 2hair. All I want is my lips on hers forever. “I know what you are trying to do,” I say. “We are not making love tonight.”

“What? Why?” she says, and even attempts to pout.

So adorable; not gonna work.

I pull back so that I can gaze into those gorgeous gray peepers. “You have been through enough.”

She is outwardly not happy. This pleases me, but it still won’t work.

“Hey.” I pull her chin up. “I want you that way, always. But that is not the only way I want you. I want you any way I can get you. Even if that means spending the night with you in my arms.”

She attempts to pout again, but this time I see the slightest smile forming.

“Are you okay?” I roll her to her side and pull her body into mine.

“I am now.” She pauses. “What happened to Mr. Creepy?”

“Not enough, if you ask me. Mason had the guards rough him up a little. He got the rich asshole version of a slap on the wrist. Next time, he’s out.”

“Oh.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine.

I know that she is not being completely honest with me. I don’t know if it is to spare my feelings or hers.

“He won’t hurt you again. I won’t let him,” I promise. I feel dizzy, nuzzling my face into the crook of her neck. She smells divine. “All I want to do is keep you safe. When I saw what that animal did to you I wanted tear him apart.”

She squeezes my arms that hold her. “That would be a bad idea. I can’t have you getting yourself kicked out of this place. I wouldn’t survive here without you. Without this.” She scoots back until there is no end or beginning to us.

“Well, we can’t have that, can we?” I put my cheek to her face, adoring her. “What’s the first thing you’re gonna do when you get out of here?” I ask.

“Go home.” She softens her hold on me.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t want to make you sad. I know how much you must miss them.” I squeeze her a little tighter, pulling her closer.

“It’s okay. You can ask me anything.”

“Do you miss him? Liam?” Her boyfriend. My voice is uneasy. I wonder if she notices.

“I do, very much.”

“I know he is going crazy without you. If you were mine, the world would lose all of its color. There would be no sound, no taste, no light without you—only darkness. I’m so sorry I took you from the people you love.”

She doesn’t respond right away. For a minute I think she may not say anything.

“I believe you.”

She falls asleep in my arms. I listen to her soft breaths as they play the sweetest lullaby. I don’t know when I doze off, but I do.

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

She nods quickly in understanding.

“Next time, call out to me. I’m just downstairs.”

I will never mute the sound again.

“Okay.”

She passes out from all of the chaos. I stay awake, watching her, listening to her breathe, images 2falling deeper in love with this amazing creature. I only hope when this is all over I get to keep her. After an hour she begins to stir.

“How do you feel?” I ask.

“Better,” she says stretching her limbs. “How long were we asleep?” she asks. She turns her head to look at me.

I will never get enough of you.

You were asleep for about an hour.” I smile at her.

“You didn’t sleep? What did you do for an hour?”

“I watched you.” My eyes never leave hers. “And listened to you snore.” I touch her nose.

“I do not snore.” She punches my arm.

I put my arms up in surrender. “Whatever you say.” I tease her with snoring sounds and we both laugh, relieved to be in this calm after the storm.

When her lips find mine, I am taken by surprise. She always surprises me. I accept everything she offers me with gratitude. Our lips tangle together. I dip my tongue inside her mouth to steal a taste. She moans out and my heart speeds up.

“I don’t know if I can go back out there,” she says when our lips part.

“I don’t know if I can let you… I want to take you away from here, Vivian.”

She shoots up in panic. “You can’t,” she whispers. “I want to go with you so much. But I don’t want to look over my shoulder for the rest of my life. I can survive this. As long as I have you,” she confesses. “I need you.”

I pull her back to my chest for two reasons. The first is because I crave the closeness. And the second, so she can’t see the stupid grin her confession has plastered across my face. “I am not going anywhere. I am here for you, always.”

She shoots up in the tub again in panic. “This doesn’t count as our time together, does it? I can still…” she whispers softly. “I can still fall asleep?”

“Absolutely. I never get enough of you.”

Zion comes in and interrupts us, stating that it is time to get me prepared for Flame’s next guests.

We clamber out of the tub. I towel off and slip my clothes back on, over my soaked boxers. “Right downstairs,” I say.

Chapter Eighteen

I watch the next scenes unfold, keeping closer eye on the actions of the men. When the last one leaves, Vivian disappears into the bathroom. When she comes back into the room, I know she will never make it as an actress. Good thing she doesn’t want to become one. She makes a play at being sleepy and too exhausted to make it to her room. When she rolls over in fake sleep, I let out a laugh.

I make my way to her Chamber when sufficient time has passed. My stomach is aflutter with the idea of spending more time with her.

“Hello there, stranger,” I whisper into her ear and plant a tender kiss just under her lobe.

She stretches, pretending to be awoken. Terrible. I want to laugh.

“Hi.” She turns to me. “I missed you.”

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

“That’s it!” I am gonna put some bruises on that fucker.

“No!” Vivian reaches for me in a panic. “Don’t leave me,” she pleads between sobs. “He didn’t really hurt me. He scared me more than anything. He scares all of us.”images 2

I don’t attempt to leave. If this is what she needs from me, to stay with her, then I will give her that. “He will never hurt you again!” I caress her face and she leans into my hand, giving me her trust. I take out my two-way, all my strength needed to stay put, with her. “Mason, I need you in Flame’s Chamber immediately.” He will know it is important by my voice.

“On my way,” Mason says through the speaker.

We only wait a few minutes before Mason comes through the bathroom archway. He stops in front of Vivian, his face a mask of anger and concern. “What the hell happened to you?”

Zion begins covering Flame’s skin with healing salve.

“That fucking asshole Serge did this to her, boss! I’m gonna fucking kill him!”

Mason turns to me. “No, you are going to let me deal with the asshole! We are not going to kill him. We are going to give him our version of a stern warning! After, we will have to decide whether he remains a part of our Chamber.”

“Understood.” Serge is gonna get the shit beat out of him tonight. I only wish it could be at my hands.

“I am so sorry about this, Flame. If—and it is a big if—he remains with us, this will never happen again.” He kisses her on the cheek. “You have a couple of hours before your next…guest. Are you up to it?”

“I will be,” she says.

Mason claps his hands together. “Then it’s settled. I better go have a chat with Mr. Serge.”

“I’m coming with you!” I say.

“I don’t think that is a good idea, given your present state. You stay here with Flame, make sure she is okay,” Mason orders.

Mason is gone without another word.

“Time for you to soak,” Zion says.

I scoop Vivian into my arms. She wraps her arms around me and places a tiny kiss on my jaw and cheek. I offer her the warmest smile I can with anger surging through me. This isn’t about Serge and what I want to do to him. This is about Vivian and what she needs from me.

“I will leave you two to talk,” Zion says.

I set Vivian down into the hot tub of water. “Why didn’t you call out for me?” I gaze into her eyes, not in anger, in hurt. If she hurts, I hurt. I know I am a goner for this woman.

She looks down before speaking. “I almost did. It took everything I had not to. I’m still new to sex and all of this kinky shit. I wasn’t sure if this was supposed to happen.” Tears explode from her eyes. “I’m sorry.”

I begin disrobing, stripping down to my boxer briefs, then I climb into the tub behind her. Some of the water spills out onto the floor. I wrap my arms around her, the only thing I can think to do. She just looks so fragile to me all of a sudden. Her head falls back onto my chest.

“Baby, you never have to be sorry about anything. You are the bravest, strongest person I know. Your strength gives me courage. It lets me see the possibilities of life.” I shift a bit so that she fits even closer to me. “You are right. You are very innocent. I will tell you this. If you are in pain, if you are scared, it is wrong. You are here for one reason, pleasure. But not just theirs. Yours, too. If some jackhat is scaring the shit out of you or hurting you, I will remedy the situation. I will protect you!”

Dominic

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

The party comes to an end, but I don’t want it to. We spent the entire party side by side, with the exception of a couple of times. I don’t know what everyone else did, because I didn’t care. I only had eyes for Flame. When I did catch Mason’s gaze he eyed me with caution. I eyed him back with, Go fuck a rock.

Chapter Sixteen

Feeling that enough time has gone by, I decide tonight will be a great time for Flame to images 2fall asleep in her Chamber. I am thankful for my psycho frenemy Mason for putting the
rule in place that a guard is allowed to have sex with his Chambermaid if, and only if, she falls asleep in her Chamber. Even if the timing wasn’t just right it wouldn’t matter to me. After spending the day with her yesterday, I want more.

More time alone.

More normal.

I take out my paper, wishing again that Zee had something other than this soft lavender stationery shit.

My Vivian,

Yesterday was like a dream. I don’t know if you noticed that no matter where you were, my eyes were on you. I can’t get enough of you in any capacity. I want you to fall asleep in your Chamber tonight. I crave more time with you. I will be watching closely tonight. If you need me, I am only right downstairs. Please remember that.

Yours,

Dominic

I sit at the base of her Chamber and watch the horror show begin. I haven’t gotten used to any of this in the two months. I am more familiar with the guys though. Serge is up there with his strange ass. He is a “hit it and quit it” type so this should be quick. He never says anything, so I mute the sound, because that silent shit weirds me the fuck out.

But I shouldn’t have muted the sound tonight. When he leaves Flame, she breaks down into tears, and I nearly tear my station up getting to her. I don’t know why she is so upset and time slows as I race up the stairs. Her hands are tied above her head and she is blindfolded. The crazy fuck didn’t care enough to untie her. I seethe. I untie her and snatch the blindfold from her eyes.

When she sees it’s me she folds into my arms and sobs. “I can’t do this anymore. He really scares me.”

I scoop her into my arms and rush her into the bathroom. She is crying harder now, and I am barely keeping it together. I can’t say a word because she needs me and not my anger right now, but I am hot.

“What happened?” Zion asks, walking into the bathroom.

“I’m gonna fucking kill that motherfucker! That’s what’s about to happen,” I shout. I set Vivian into a chair. She isn’t Flame right now—she is Vivian, and she is mine. I pace. “Look at her!” I shout again as bruises start popping up on her skin.

“Oh, my goodness!” Zion gasps.

Vivian faces the mirror and gasps. Her beautiful skin is turning red and purple before my eyes. Her breasts, her shoulders, her hips are tinged with color from where that fucker was too rough. Then she cries harder.

You Only Need One Reason to Watch This Show

Tags

Screen Shot 2017-05-23 at 4.04.39 PM

I recently had the great privilege of watching 13 Reasons Why on Netflix. Initially, I had no particular interest in checking it out because it seemed to be aimed at teenagers. While I have two teenagers of my own, we don’t really enjoy the same shows. I was at my best friend’s wedding in California, and over dinner she mentioned it and recommended I watch it. She and I have similar taste in television shows, so I figured, what the heck?

Fast forward a few days and three hospital visits (I didn’t mention that I was sick as a dog at the wedding). My doctor loaded me with infection-killing drugs and pain killers and gave me specific instructions to rest for the next four to five days. I wanted to get better, so I listened. Besides, I had a new show to check out on Netflix.

I quickly realized that 13 Reasons Why isn’t just for teenagers, it is for everybody—every mother, father, child, teacher, counselor, neighbor, and human. After some investigation, I found out that that 13 Reasons Why the show is based on the debut novel by Jay Asher. In my opinion, this is a story that should be read or viewed by students starting from middle school on. It teaches us that bullying occurs on so many different levels, that the most seemingly harmless statements or events could have lifelong and potentially damaging results. If parents watched it with their children, perhaps lines of communication could be opened from a new place.

The series takes place in a setting that plops us directly into the lives of individuals who had an active or inactive role in the events leading to a young girl’s suicide. It highlights how impressionable teens are and how afraid they are of standing out and being ridiculed themselves. It is a good thing that our schools implore students to speak up when they see bullying happen, whether or not they take part in the act. Our children should never have to suffer at each other’s hands. What I loved about the show is that it portrays the moral and emotional price we all pay by being “innocent” bystanders.

Of course, this show won’t change everyone, the ending proves that. But I believe it is an invaluable tool to head in the right direction. My hope is that it may help a parent see that their own child needs help, or that someone who works in a school will see the impact of social isolation and bullying from the victim’s point of view.

The Men of the Seven Chambers Series

A Novella

by D.W. Marshall

In an attempt to take any attention off of the love that is budding between us, Flame swims to the edge and starts pulling people into the pool, and I jump at the chance to help her. Zion, Roxy, Mason. She starts a huge water battle. James, one of the guards tosses in a bunch of super-soaker water guns—and we go to water war.

We spend the next hour splashing, dunking, and shooting each other. Whenever I scan images 2the pool to find her, she seems to be doing the same thing, I will never tire of my eyes beholding her.

We are all spent and call a truce. All I want is food and Flame. I make my way to the food, cold stuff on ice, hot stuff on warmers. I load two plates full and find Flame.

“Thanks,” she says when I present her with food. She needs to know that I desire to take care of her. We find a table off to the side, away from the water in case another fight breaks loose. “I’m starving,” she says and sinks her fork into a heap of macaroni and cheese.

“I figured as much,” I say. I am so enraptured with her all I can do is stare.

“Aren’t you going to eat?” she asks around a bite.

Busted. “Sure. I guess I can’t help it.” I take a bite of the steak. It’s good, but she tastes even better.

“I don’t get much opportunity to see you like this,” I say and chance a glance around. “We could be anywhere right now. I can imagine that you are mine and we are at a buddy’s barbeque. Not here. That’s how I want it to be. I’m taking little snapshots,” I admit.

She blushes into her hand. “That sounds wonderful.”

That sounds wonderful? The barbeque or the part about her being mine?

I continue eating, never letting my eyes leave hers for long. I am so head-over-heels for this woman. When this is over, if she will have me, I will spend every day cherishing her, body and soul. And most important, making up for subjecting her to this year of hell.

“So do you expect that I am going to be too sleepy to descend The Chamber stairs anytime soon?” she asks. I can see the hope behind her eyes. Her voice is low.

“Very soon.”
